Complex Sentence

“Under tjugotalet hade han byggt upp ett globalt finansimperium frĂ„n ingenting.”

This sentence uses the pluperfect tense ('hade byggt upp'). The pluperfect is formed with the past tense of 'ha' (hade) plus the supine form of the main verb ('byggt'). It describes an action that was completed before another past event. Here, Kreuger had already built his empire before the story's main events in 1932 took place.
